Jeanne du Barrythe most recent film by the French director Maiwennwill be screened on the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival. The film stars herself and Johnny Deppthe latter in his first job after the defamation trial in which he faced his ex-wife Amber Heard last year.
The tape shows the relationship between King Louis XV (Depp) and his lover Jeanne du Barry (Maiwenn), attacked by many because of her past as a courtesan and because she did not belong to the nobility. So far it is not known if all the dialogues in the film are in French, a language that Johnny does not speak.
“Jeanne du Barry” will premiere at the festival on May 16 (the same date of its commercial release in France); the winner of the palm d’or -maximum award in the event- will be announced on the 27th of that month. the tapes “Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny”of James Mangoldand “Killers of the flower moon”of Martin Scorsesewill be screened out of competition, but on April 13 the films that make up the Official Selection will be announced.
