If you live trapped in a spiral of routine that prevents you from discerning what day of the week you are on, I have a trick for you: If there are movie premieres, it’s Friday! Today, after ‘Moon Knight’ came to an end, the Marvel Universe returns to the big screen at the hands of Doctor Strange, but the news of this May 6th They go beyond the superheroes on duty. We will review them below.
The premieres of May 6, 2022
‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’ (‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, 2022)
-
The film was going to be directed by Scott Derrickson, but after he dropped out due to “creative differences”, the studio considered names like Ari Aster, Mike Flanagan and Jennifer Kent.
-
Finally, Sam Raimi took the director’s seat, and he is by no means a stranger to the world of superheroes. In addition to signing the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, the director directed the fantastic ‘Darkman’.
-
It is Raimi’s return to directing nine years after ‘Oz: A World of Fantasy’.
-
The soundtrack is composed by the always interesting Danny Elfman, and marks his ninth work for a comic book adaptation. The previous ones were Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’, the ‘Men in Black’ saga, ‘Hulk’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Hellboy 2’, ‘Justice League’ and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
-
The title of the film pays homage, in its own way, to HP Lovecraft’s work ‘At the Mountains of Madness’.
-
It is the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe released under the “horror” label. The truth is that components to deserve it, are not lacking.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’ had everything to be one of the best Marvel movies but is content to be very entertaining
‘Red Rocket’ (2021)
-
‘Red Rocket’ is the new film by Sean Baker, the prestigious director behind the celebrated ‘Tangerine’ and ‘The Florida Project’.
-
The title of the film refers to the term slang which refers to the virile member of dogs.
-
As in much of Baker’s work, many of the film’s actors are non-professionals.
-
During the filming of the fight scene in the parking lot, several bystanders called the police several times.
-
Baker’s “guerrilla” style of shooting is reflected in some scenes that were shot without permits, such as the one where Simon Rex’s character runs naked down the street.
Criticism in Espinof: Cannes 2021: ‘A hero’ by Farhadi and ‘Red Rocket’ by Baker entangle us with their charming scoundrels from totally different artistic visions
‘Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle’ (‘Onoda, 10,000 nuits dans la jungle’, 2021)
-
It is the new film by Arthur Harari, author of ‘Diamant Noir’ or ‘In Vain’.
-
The film arrives in our cinemas after passing through the Cannes and Seville festivals, winning the Special Jury Prize and the Best Screenplay Award in the latter.
-
‘Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle’ won the César Award for best original screenplay in addition to four nominations, making it one of the season’s great French films.
