Spring is here with its asthenia that leaves you ironed as if a truck had run over you, with its allergies that destroy your respiratory tract and with its time change that takes an hour of life from our faces. But not all are misfortunes, because This Friday new releases arrive in our cinemas who bring under their arms a cathedral of modern action cinema and other no less interesting things. Let’s review them!
The premieres of March 24, 2023
‘John Wick 4’ (‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, 2023)
- It is, as its own title indicates, the fourth installment of the ‘John Wick’ saga that started in 2014 and launched its third part last 2019.
- It is once again directed by Chad Stahelski alone, the stuntman turned filmmaker who is already cooking the adaptation of ‘Ghost of Tsushima’.
- Keanu Reeves returns to lead the cast, and will be accompanied by performers and martial artists of the stature of Donnie Yen or Marko Zaror.
- It is the longest film in the saga, and it assures us 169 of action in its purest form. A real delight.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘John Wick 4’ is a masterpiece of the most excessive action cinema: Keanu Reeves pushes this mythical character to the limit in a film even more brutal than its predecessors
’65’ (2023)
- It is directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, writers of ‘A Quiet Place’ and directors of ‘House of Terror’.
- The production is in charge of the horror master Sam Raimi, who this year will also premiere a new installment of ‘Infernal Possession’ as executive producer.
- The cast is led by Adam Driver, who is accompanied by Ariana Greenblatt, Chloe Coleman and Nika King.
- Its premise is very simple: an astronaut crashes on a mysterious planet —which ends up not being so mysterious— that is populated by dinosaurs wanting to have a snack.
Criticism in Espinof: ’65’: an effective series B with Adam Driver against dinosaurs that complies with the difficult lost art of cinema to see, enjoy and forget in 90 minutes
‘Sparta’ (2022)
- It is one of the most controversial films of the year, and offers a look at a most disturbing pedophile, although it is by no means explicit.
- It is directed by Ulrich Seidl, who this week is doing a double in theaters with ‘Rimini’.
- The film reaches theaters after passing through the San Sebastian Festival and after being banned at festivals such as Venice.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Sparta’ is the most controversial film of the year: this portrait of a pedophile scandalizes more for what it does not show than for what it does
‘Motherland’ (2023)
- It is the feature debut of Álvaro Gago Díaz, who signed the eponymous short film in 2017 that has ended up becoming his debut feature.
- She has just won the best actress award at the Malaga Festival thanks to the work of María Vázquez, who is accompanied by Santi Prego, Soraya Luaces and Susana Sampedro, among others.
- It is a look at mother-child relationships that already garnered very good reviews after its preview at the Berlin Festival.

Criticism in Espinof: Cannes Festival 2022: warrior ponies that are worth a Golden Camera and the search for identity on the return to Seoul
