¡its here, its arrived! The last Friday of May has just slapped us to remind us that, in the blink of an eye, we have almost consumed half of 2022. But don’t let this instigator of existential crises make you suffer, because the fifth day of the week brings under its arm a barrage of premieres that leave us with the most epic action, multimillion-dollar anime and a handful of the most varied movies that take us to the retinas. Let’s review them!
The premieres of May 27, 2022
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ (2022)
-
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is the second part that has taken the longest in the history of film franchises; specifically, 36 years.
-
According to Miles Teller, more footage was shot on ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ than on Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.
-
Tom Cruise personally designed a 3-month pilot training for the actors to fly the F-18s.
-
The actors had to film themselves inside their cockpits, so they needed to learn not only how to fly, but how to operate cameras, adjust lighting, sound, and even touch up their makeup.
-
The film is shot with IMAX-certified Sony Venice 6K cameras, which were specially designed to fit inside jet cabins. The secret is that the sensor can be separated from the camera body and then connected with fiber optics.
-
The World War II P-51 Mustang seen in the film is Tom Cruise’s real-life private plane.
-
The main condition that Tom Cruise put in order to agree to shoot the film was that real planes be used in the aerial sequences and the use of CGI be minimized. Said and done.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is amazing: Tom Cruise rescues the virtuoso show for theaters in a supersonic sequel to the limit of gravity
‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie’ (‘Gekijouban Jujutsu Kaisen 0’, 2021)
-
The film is based on ‘Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 0’, a prequel that served as a “pilot” to the ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ manga.
-
‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ is ?late? to Spanish cinemas after sweeping box offices around the world, where it has already accumulated a collection of 155 million dollars.
-
In fact, the film has already entered the Top 10 with the highest grossing anime films in history, stealing the position from ‘Princess Mononoke’, which occupies the tenth position.
-
The film is directed by Sunghoo Park, who is responsible for the ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ series and who debuted with ‘The God of High School’ in 2020.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ is a masterful prequel up to the anime series (and expectations)
Sundown (2021)
-
‘Sundown’ is the new film by Michel Franco, who left us with our hearts in a fist with the sweeping ‘New Order’.
-
The film arrives in our cinemas after passing through the Venice Film Festival, where it participated in the official competition section and received mixed reviews.
-
It stars a top notch duo made up of Tim Roth and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Sundown’: A fabulous Shangri-La with the smell of blood and death in which the indifference of its protagonist is as attractive as it is unpalatable
‘Memory’ (2021)
-
‘Memory’ arrives in our theaters after winning the Jury Prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and the Best Film Award at the Chicago Film Festival that same year.
-
It is the new work by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, so we can expect another regression to that difficult-to-digest cinema that will make some fall in love and plunge others into despair. There are no middle terms here.
-
It was the selection of Colombia to represent the country at the Oscars.
-
It stars the chameleonic Tilda Swinton.
Criticism in Espinof: Cannes 2021: Wheerasethakul’s demanding sound search in ‘Memoria’ and the contagious energy of Ayouch’s rappers in ‘Casablanca Beats’
Plus…
‘Maigret’ (‘Maigret et la jeune morte’, 2022)
‘The diner’ (2022)
‘Elsewhere’ (2021)
‘Tuscany’ (2022)
‘Costa Brava, Lebanon’ (‘Costa Brava, Lebanon’, 2021)
‘La Mif (The family)’ (‘La Mif’, 2021)
‘Ancient Soul’ (2021)
‘Red Cunt’ (2021)
‘La desvida’ (2021)
