Colored lights are already flooding the cities —did someone say energy crisis?—, the cold seems to have come to stay for a while and the hangover from Black Friday still makes our pockets ache. The month of December is already with us, reminding us that Christmas is just around the corner, but if, like me, you are one of those who do not have much esteem for these dates, This Friday the 2nd a few new releases arrive in our theaters to brighten up our existence a little.
The premieres of December 2, 2022
‘The menu’ (‘The Menu’, 2022)
- It is the new film by Mark Mylod, seasoned in series such as ‘Succession’, ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘Shameless’ and responsible for that incunabulable jewel that is ‘Ali G is on the loose’.
- Among the names that appear in its cast we find Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau or John Leguizamo, but the two big stars of the show are Anya Taylor-Joy and, above all, a huge Ralph Fiennes.
- Three years ago, the film should have been made on the orders of Alexander Payne with Emma Stone in the title role.
- It’s one of those movies where the less you know before you indulge in its many pleasures, the better.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘The menu’ is tasty, fresh and different: Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy’s recipe is delicious from start to finish
‘Venus’ (2022)
- It is the latest work by Jaume Balagueró, and is part of the series of feature films produced by Álex de la Iglesia under the label ‘The Fear Collection’.
- It is a concoction of action, cosmic horror and criminal thriller of those that is difficult to leave indifferent.
- It stars Ester Expósito, Ángela Cremonte, Fernando Valdivieso and Federico Aguado, among others.
- It was the opening film of the last edition of the Sitges Festival.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Venus’: Jaume Balagueró opens the festival with a discreet criminal thriller of cosmic horror that turns Ester Expósito into a Scream Queen
‘Silent Night’ (‘Violent Night’, 2022)
- It is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola, known for his hilarious and wild two installments of ‘Nazi Zombies’, and for the underrated ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’.
- Its protagonist is David Harbour, whom we have seen in productions such as ‘Stranger Things’ and who has brought Hellboy to life in the unfairly maligned adaptation directed by Neil Marshall.
- It is written by those responsible for ‘Sonic: The Movie’, and turns Santa Claus into a kind of Christmas John Wick.
‘Full train 2: Yes, it has happened to them again’ (2022)
- It is directed by Inés de León, director of ‘¿Qué te juegas?’.
- It is the continuation of the commercial success of Santiago Segura ‘A todo tren: Destino Asturias’ that premiered in 2021.
- The main names that lead its cast are Paz Vega, Paz Padilla, Santiago Segura, Leo Harlem and Florentino Fernández.
- Probably, it will again sweep the box office, eclipsing its competitors.
Plus…
‘The rebel empress’ (‘Corsage’, 2022)
