The premieres of November 23, 24 and 25, 2022
‘Daggers in the back: The mystery of Glass Onion’ (‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, 2022)
- It is the continuation of the magnificent ‘Puñales por el espalda’ with which Rian Johnson revitalized the subgenre of whodunnit in 2019, and offers a new dose of mystery of the highest level.
- Its cast is dazzling, and includes names like Daniel Craig, Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista and Kathryn Hahn.
- It’s Daniel Craig’s first film since he’s hung up his tuxedo and license to kill as James Bond’s double zero.
- When Netflix bought the rights to the film, the green light was given to the development of a third part in which Craig and director Rian Johnson will reunite.
- It opens in theaters on a limited basis for one week on November 23, 2022.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Daggers in the back: The mystery of Glass Onion’ is one of the best and funniest films of the year: the Netflix sequel has nothing to envy its predecessor
‘Strange World’ (‘Strange World’, 2022)
- It is the new animated film from Disney, and is co-directed by Don Hally —’Raya and the Last Dragon’— and Qui Nguyen, who makes his directorial debut after signing the script for ‘Raya’ with Hally.
- His original voice collection is fantastic, and features the vocal chords of Jake Gyllenhaal, Lucy Liu, Dennis Quaid, and Gabrielle Union, among others.
- It is the second film from Walt Disney Animation Studios to be rated PG by the MPAA after ‘Frozen II’ due to its action scenes and certain themes.
- It is the first film to have used the Disney Centennial logo.
‘The woman king’ (‘The Woman King’, 2022)
- This war epic is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, responsible for titles such as ‘The Old Guard’ or ‘The Secret Life of Bees’.
- The cast of the film is headed by Viola Davis and John Boyega.
- It is inspired by the real events that occurred in the Kingdom of Dahomey between the 18th and 19th centuries, and follows the general of a female military unit that fought against the enemies of her people.
- It comes to our theaters after its preview at the Toronto Film Festival, where it received a more than decent reception.
‘Until the bones: Bones and All’ (‘Bones and All’, 2022)
- ‘Bones and All’ is the meeting between director Luca Guadagnino and Timothée Chalamet after the fantastic ‘Call Me by Your Name’.
- It adapts the novel by Camille DeAngelis and tells a story of adolescent cannibal love in the key of a road movie.
- Along with Chalamet, the cast is completed by Taylor Russell, Mark Rylance, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon Green and Jessica Harper, among others.
- She won the award for best director and for best emerging actress at the Venice Festival and closed the last edition of the Sitges Festival.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Hasta los huesos: Bones and All’: the meeting of Luca Guadagnino and Timothée Chalamet is a gloomy generational road movie of cannibal adolescent love
‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’ (‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’, 2022)
- It is a beautiful version of the classic tale filtered through the vision of Guillermo del Toro, which he co-directs with Mark Gustafson.
- In its cast there are top-level names such as Ewan McGregor, Ron Perlman, Cate Blanchett, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, John Turturro or Christoph Waltz. Almost nothing.
- It opens in limited theaters before its release on Netflix next December.
- It is the first animated film directed by Guillermo del Toro.
