Let it not be said that Halloween is not coming! In addition to continuing to be fully immersed in the 2022 Sitges Festival, the spooky season continues to be noticed with the movie premieres of this October 14, 2022, in which, among many other offerings, we have the return of Michael Myers and the latest revolution in national terror courtesy of Carlota Pereda. Let’s review them all.
The premieres of October 14, 2022
‘Halloween: The End’ (‘Halloween Ends’, 2022)
- It is the latest installment in the ‘Halloween’ trilogy directed by David Gordon Green, and comes after ‘Halloween Night’ and ‘Halloween Kills’.
- On this occasion, the story is set four years after the events told in the last film in the saga, and will again have Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Strode as the protagonist.
- Curtis has confirmed that this will be the last time he plays Strode, although he also said the same thing after ‘Halloween II’ and ‘Halloween: Resurrection’.
- As far as the future of the franchise is concerned, Jason Blum has already confirmed that there will be more movies, as Malek Akkad has a clause that prohibits Michael Myers from dying.
‘Little Pig’ (2022)
- It is the extension to the feature film format of the homonymous short film winner of the Goya last 2021, also written and directed by Carlota Pereda.
- According to its director Carlota Pereda, she wrote ‘Cerdita’ “To face my own fears. Real life fears. Because being a teenager can be a terrifying thing.”
- The film arrives in our cinemas after passing through festivals such as San Sebastián or Sitges, and after winning prizes at contests such as the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.
- Laura Galán repeats the leading role after the short film, and is accompanied by Carmen Machi, Claudia Salas and Pilar Castro, among others.
Criticism in Espinof: San Sebastian Festival 2022 | ‘Pig’ is a binge on good national horror movies that mixes the sleaze of ‘Delicatessen’ with the offal of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’
‘All Quiet on the Front’ (‘Im Westen nichts Neue’, 2022)
- It is the new adaptation of the homonymous anti-war novel written by Erich Maria Remarque.
- It is directed by Edward Berger, a German director responsible for feature films such as ‘Jack’ and episodes of series such as ‘Patrick Melrose’, ‘Deutschland 83’ or ‘The Terror’.
- Before this version, we were able to enjoy the exceptional film directed by Lewss Milestone and Delbert Mann’s TV Movie released in the late 70s.
- It stars, among others, Daniel Brühl, Sebastian Hülk and Albrecht Schuch.
‘Wild Sunflowers’ (2022)
- It is the new film by Jaime Rosales, winner of the Goya for Best Director in 2008 for his work on ‘La Soledad’.
- It arrives at our cinemas after passing through the last edition of the San Sebastian Festival.
- It stars Anna Castillo, Oriol Pla, Lluís Marquès, Manolo Solo and Carolina Yuste.
