After a few waits between seasons, this summer it premiered ‘Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun‘, a second season that continued to adapt the story of the manga.
The second season closed in September and of course the fans expected that at some point there would be news of more chapters, but we did not expect it to arrive so soon.
Series or movie?
From the official account of the anime, a first promo has been launched to confirm the project, which they are referring to as a “sequel” to ‘The Golden City of the Scorching Sun’.

However, what is not very clear is whether it is a third season or a new anime movie for ‘Made in Abyss’. When talking about sequels, the logical thing to do would be to go directly for a new season, the problem comes from the amount of material that remains to be adapted.
Right now almost all of Akihito Tsukushi’s manga has been adapted, with just a few chapters pending… With which we either enter original material or filler for the anime, or the series will have to wait to leave more time for the publication of the manga.
The other option is that Kinema Critus have in hand a movie to adapt a specific arc as was done at the time with ‘Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul’, which is canon in the anime continuity. Or also that it directly points to the fashion of original movies to fill in the gap between seasons as ‘Spy x Family’ has done.
In any case, the study has not given more data for now and has asked the fans for patience. Taking into account that no graphic material has been shown, most likely the project is still in a very early phase and we will have to wait until 2024 at the earliest for its premiere. Although we hope that the mystery is revealed a little sooner.
