The creators of ‘Operation Triumph’Toni Cruz and Josep Maria Mainat have denounced ‘Eufòria’ for plagiarism, although the producer of the TV3 musical talent show denies the accusations and affirms that they have not received any legal notification.
Operation Euphoria?
Last Monday, Toni Cruz and Josep Maria Mainat confirmed in an interview with ‘El món a RAC1’ that, after unsuccessfully meeting with TVE3, they have filed a lawsuit for plagiarism against the Catalan reality show ‘Eufòria’. They consider it a carbon copy of ‘Operación Triunfo’, whose rights still belong to Gestmusic.
If the law agrees with them, the contest “He will have to shut down, indemnify the people and the producer”. Furthermore, both creators they carry pointing the similarities between both formats since the one presented by Miki Núñez and Marta Torné began broadcasting in 2022:
They have sold it as “the Catalan ‘Operation Triumph'”. A show that reproduces point by point the experience, the mechanics, the elements of the format, the scenery, the characters and the terminology of our show without acknowledging its authorship and without having the approval of its original creators.
For its part, Veranda TV, the producer of the program, has responded denying the accusations of plagiarism and claims not to have received any lawsuits:
We have no record of this complaint and, therefore, we cannot make any assessment (…) We are surprised by the lateness of the complaint: why didn’t they say anything during the broadcast of season 1? Maybe because they waited to see if the show was a success? (…) The accusation of plagiarism by Messrs. Cruz and Mainat has no foundation, rather it confuses format and genre.
