HBO has decided not to renew ‘Perry Mason’ for a third season, thus leaving the series starring Perry without an end. Matthew Rhys and based on the mythical character created by Erle Stanley Gardner 90 years ago. And it is that the second installment of him ended with a powerful cliffhanger that will never be resolved on screen.
Goodbye Perry
It is clear that the discreet audiences that the second season had did not help HBO to want to continue with it. It should also not be forgotten that almost three years passed between the premieres of the first and secondso perhaps some viewers no longer remember what had happened and were lazy to resume it.
From HBO they have released a statement making it clear that “we are tremendously grateful for the great work of Matthew Rhys and the unparalleled cast and crew of ‘Perry Mason’ in reimagining such a treasured and storied franchise.“and also that are looking forward to working with Robert Downey Jr.’s production company again.but not in a third season of this series.
Let’s remember that the series was initially born as a project to be starred by Downey Jr., but ended up getting off the boat and being replaced by Rhys. Where he is going to appear as an actor, although in a secondary role, is in ‘The Sympathizer’, a miniseries also for HBO in which the Korean Park Chan Wook (‘The Maiden’) directs several episodes.
The cancellation has not been accompanied by the possibility of finding a new home for ‘Perry Mason’, something that is surely due to the fact that it is a rather expensive series to produce, so We can rule out that this will happen.
