Morton Subastas opened its doors in 1987 in Mexico City as an antiques gallery. Over time it has become a leader in auctions for modern and contemporary art, antiques, jewelry and watches, books, wines and much more.
The origin of the word “auction” in Spanish comes from Latin. Auction derives from the fact that to indicate the place where the spoils of war were going to be distributed, spears (“hastas” in Latin) were stuck into the ground. In this way, the auction was carried out “under the spears” or what is the same “sub” “until”.
