That ‘Gladiator 2’ came to be done was something that sounded like complete madness until not so long ago. In fact, the first project to carry out this sequel was insane, but Ridley Scott has wanted to do it and this year the filming will begin with Paul Mescal (‘Aftersun’) leading the cast. Now it’s been Russell Crowe who has spoken about the continuation of the biggest success of his career as a leading man.
What Crowe has said
The actor has given an interview to the radio program ‘Fitzy and Wippa’, where he has denied the rumors that he is going to return as Máximo Décimo Meridio and has confirmed the story of the film. Specific, this is what he said when asked if he was going to appear in ‘Gladiator 2’:
Absolutely. I more or less know how Ridley Scott has shaped history. Do you remember that young man who wanted to sell the Gladiator? Which leads to the ‘My name is…’ speech. That boy has grown up and he is now the Emperor. I don’t know what happens from there, but that’s the idea.
It’s a shame we’re not going to have Crowe, but it is that it did not make any kind of sense that Máximo would return after what happened at the end of the first installment. What remains in doubt is whether any of the other ‘Gladiator’ stars will appear in this sequel, as Mescal remains the only confirmed cast member.
That should change shortly, as it seems that finally The recordings will begin this coming April after suffering a slight delay of two weeks. By then we should know who else is in the film, because obviously it takes more than Mescal playing Lucio for ‘Gladiator 2’ to take shape.
