Starfox’s presence in Eternals opened up a question in the MCU: if Eros is an Eternal, is Thanos too?
In the comics, Thanos was born on the planet Titan just like his brother Eros, known as Starfox, and they are the children of the eternal Mentor (A’Lars) and Sui-San. On this, the CBR site points out that “Thanos is the product of two Eternals who conceive a child, an act that is not allowed between them. As a result, he becomes the host for the Deviant gene, which alters the appearance of him, but still technically makes him an Eternal.” However, in the MCU, Thanos is not an Eternal.

In the Eternals movie, one of the post-credits scenes features Eros, who Pip the Troll mentions is the Prince of Titan and the brother of Thanos. During his intervention, Eros says that he is his “Eternal brother”. On the same note, an interview with Chloé Zhao with Empire is recovered where she mentions that, just as there were 10 eternals destined for Earth, there were another 10 destined for Titan, among which would be Strarfox.
Eternals complemented and recontextualized the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the Infinity Saga. It also reworked some aspects of the Marvel Comics continuity.
One of these reforms to what was known in the comics was “the revelation that the Eternals are actually humanoid androids created by the Celestial Arishem in the Forge of the World. These beings can function for centuries without aging and are powered by cosmic energy.” That would impede their ability to procreate.
This only leaves one conclusion, either Thanos or Eros, one of the two is the adopted brother.
If Thanos isn’t an Eternal, but Starfox is, why are they brothers?
The two theories that are suggested would explain the sibling relationship between Thanos and Eros. In the first, it is said that “it is likely that Eros was present during the formative years of the planet and became an influencer, similar to Ajak, in helping its inhabitants to develop… At this time, Eros probably made his way into the royal family and became a brother to Thanos.”
The other possibility is that the Eternals on Titan “became the royal family and took Thanos in when he was young. However, due to his intelligence, he quickly understood the dangers of losing resources and, wanting to reduce the population, became a threat to the emerging ones. As a result, they had a falling out and left before the planet died, or a Celestial was born.”
In this second option, perhaps Eros created ties with the inhabitants of the doomed planet and, like some Eternals of Earth, this led him to betray Arishem, joining the cause of Thanos. In this sense, it must be remembered that in Eternals it was explained that the real reason behind Thanos’ snap was that he wanted to reduce populations to prevent the birth of new Celestials.
