Against all odds, the Mexican singer Thalia broke the silence to speak for the first time in 32 years about the uncomfortable moment he lived with the television presenter Raúl VelascoWell, he called her “corrientota” during one of her live performances. What did she say about it? Read on to find out.
It was during a master class organized by Billboard Latin Woman in Music that the interpreter of “Amor a la mexicana” opened up about her experience in the music industry, emphasizing that during her first years of career, female talent was undervalued.
The example that Thalía used to shed light on this problem was her presentation on the “Siempre en Domingo” program and the uncomfortable interaction she had with her host when she was barely 18 years old and was taking her first steps in the world of music.
And it is that after interpreting his single “Amarillo Azul”, Raúl Velasco made a comment about his physical appearance: “I want to make a very favorable observation, from the day you debuted on the program, until now, you have had an evolution, a lot very welcome,” he said. “This outfit that you are wearing now corresponds to that of a young, happy girl… they took away the ‘corrientota’ that they had put on you the first day,” added the presenter.
32 years after the foolish comment, Tommy Mottola’s wife spoke like never before about this event and strongly disapproved of what she experienced.
“That authority of telling a girl that she has just released her first song, her first album, with stars in her eyes, facing her audience and suddenly being told live ‘Why do you wear makeup like that? You are ordinary, you are cheap, what a horror‘” the singer said.
“It was a system that, if someone passes you now, you say: ‘Woh, behind me, millions come and you stop because you stop’, but at that time it was a system, it was normalized“, he said to later express his emotion for the new generations and his courage in putting a stop to this type of behavior.
