Cillian Murphy He is one of the most in-demand actors of our time. He recently finished his time in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ series -although it won’t be long before he will have to shoot the film- and soon we will see him in ‘Oppenheimer’, the long-awaited new work by Christopher Nolan, but he already has a long career behind him. Curiously, today he arrives on Netflix ‘Night flight’where he offers one of his best performances to date.
The virtues (and the defect) of ‘Night Flight’
‘Night Flight’ also has the honor of being one of the last truly inspired works by Wes Craven and also one of its most popular titles at the box office -its income in theaters multiplied its cost almost fourfold-. That does not mean that it has fallen a bit into oblivion since its arrival in theaters in 2005, something quite curious if we take into account that the other great protagonist of the show is the also very popular Rachel McAdamswho manages with ease the role of victim who may not end up being so much.
In ‘Night Flight’ we find a film divided into three very different parts. The first with a certain tendency to romantic comedy but with the viewer knowing at all times that there is something strange there, a second full of tension on board a plane and a third in which everything rushes.
To be fair, ‘Night Flight’ hooks and has quite a bit of strength during those first two parts, since to the good work of Murphy and McAdams we must add a precise staging work by Craven, who does not take more delight in anything and knows how to play very well with suspense. Then the interest suffers in the final part, where everything rushes too much, but what was previously seen more than compensates for that downturn.
Another point in its favor is that if you have bad weather, ‘Night Flight’ is your movie, as the end credits appear before the 77th minute of footage. And don’t worry, there’s no post-credits scene here. In case you want more alternatives of adjusted duration available in streaming, here are several more.
