There is no doubt that the people at Telecinco Cinema have found a gigantic gold mine with the animated saga of ‘Tadeo Jones’. The first two adventures of the Cañí archaeologist raised $49.4 and $33.7 million worldwide respectively —23.8 and 21.3 million in Spain— and, with this precedent, it was to be expected that the premiere of the third installment, entitled ‘La tabla esmeralda’, would turn our cinemas upside down again.
Archaeologists and bumps
Enrique Gato’s feature film has crowned our box office in its opening weekend after attracting 350,000 spectators which have involved a sum of €2.2 million and a market share of 47%. Figures that make ‘Tadeo Jones 3’ the second best release of an animated film —only behind ‘Minions: The Origin of Gru’— and the second best release of a Spanish film —after ‘Padre no hay más que uno 3’— in 2022. In addition, it has also reached number one in France.
Although the premiere of ‘The Emerald Table’ has been slightly below the first two deliveries, which debuted with 2.9 and 2.6 million euros, its amount has been enough to beat ‘After. Infinite love’, which has begun its journey in cinemas occupying the second position. The Top 5 with the most views are closed by ‘Bullet Train’, ‘Nop’ and ‘Padre no hay más que uno 3’.
On the other hand, the American box office has left us one of the worst weekends of the year. The horror film ‘The Invitation’ has debuted with a discreet 6.8 million dollars that, according to gossips, would have been due to a PG-13 rating that has left the feature film at half gas – it has already been announced that its R version will arrive with its domestic premiere—, while the long-awaited ‘3000 years waiting for you’ of George Miller being has hit a tremendous bump with 2.9 million that place it in seventh position.
Between these two titles -the only premieres that have crept into the Top 10- and residual amounts of films like ‘Bullet Train’, ‘The Beast’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ -which has fallen 78% in its second weekend— and ‘DC League of Superpets’, the total collection in the American country has remained in a very discreet 52 million dollars.
