Tony Dow, who starred in Leave It to Beaver and directed the TV series Swamp Thing, has died at the age of 77.
THR confirmed the death of Tony Dow at the age of 77, who was the director of the Swamp Thing television show in the 1990s. As reported by the outlet, Dow died Tuesday morning, his representatives Frank Bilotta and Renee James said in a statement:
“Tony was a beautiful soul: kind, compassionate, funny and humble,” the statement read. “It was really a pleasure to be around him. His soft voice and his unassuming manner were immediately comforting and you couldn’t help but love him. The world has lost an incredible human being, but we are all richer for the memories he has left us. From warm reminiscences of Wally Cleaver to those of us lucky enough to know him personally, thank you Tony. And thank you for the reflections of a simpler time, the laughter, the friendship and for feeling that you were a big brother to all of us.

Dow rose to fame beginning in 1957 when he appeared on Leave it to Beaver as Wally Cleaver, the older brother of the show’s titular boy, Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver (Jerry Mathers). His character and the show caught on with the public, so sequels recurrently appeared after the end of the sitcom even until the 1980s.
Although he never left acting, he combined it with his taste for directing science fiction programs, such as some episodes of Babylon 5, the “Field of Fire” chapter of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and five chapters of the cult series Swamp Thing from 1990-1993.
