With the success of Crisis on Infinite Earths Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti were commissioned to develop a series on Superman, with Tyler Hoechlin as the lead. This series tackled the family side of Kal-El, now that he has two sons alongside Lois Lane, Jordan and Jonathan.
The role of Jonathan Kent was played for two seasons by actor Jordan Elsass, who did not report to the first call for the third season of Superman and Lois, which is why the production of the series announced his departure from the program.
“Jordan Elsass has notified the studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season three due to personal reasons. He will recast the role of Jonathan Kent”, reads a statement issued by Warner Bros. which spread the site Deadline.
Does the production have other data?
Some sources close to the studio claim that Elsass’s departure was caused by problems due to his mental health, something that the producers were aware of, added to the fact that the actor did not have the complete vaccination scheme against Covid-19, a requirement requested by the authorities of Canada, the country where the series is filmed.
Elsass is the first Superman and Lois actor to announce his departure from the Arrowverse. Warner Bros. has not yet revealed who will replace Jordan Elsass, or if this departure will delay the premiere of the third season, which will premiere in 2023.
The first two seasons of the Superman and Lois series are available in Mexico and Latin America through the HBO Max digital platform.
