In the past week, ‘Andore’ gave us the best episode so far of the series with ‘A way out’, where Cassian was shown managing to escape from forced labor and starting a new fuse for the Resistance to take action and the Empire, while that today it was time to prepare the way for what promises to be a great season finale.
It had not been unusual until now that the character of diego luna It would go into the background so that the Disney+ series would give more depth to other very important fronts for the future of ‘Andor’. In ‘Daughter of Ferrix’ Just that has happened without the tension dropping and knowing how to hit the right key to also shine emotionally.
Watch out for spoilers from here on out.
Difficult decisions
On the one hand it is clear that Senator Mon Mothma is in a mess that is very difficult to solve and only one sequence is necessary to make it clear that she will have no choice but to accept that proposal that she had initially repudiated. Both the music of Nicholas Britell as the interpretation of Genevieve O’Reilly they are fundamental to give a touch of inevitable fatality to achieve a greater good.
That is also the conclusion drawn from the meeting between Luthen and Saw Gerrera, as both are well aware that the Empire has everything to gain if they act honestly and save Kreegyr and his men. As the character played by Forest WhitakerIt is a decision motivated by the imminent war of the Resistance against the Empire, and we must not forget that in the end how to get to that situation is what ‘Andor’ is telling us.
However, the Empire’s allies are not useless either and little by little they are making progress, from that torture session that has left Bix battered to that final attempt to board Luthen’s ship. It is clear that buying time is the best strategy right now, but that there will be more casualties along the way is something inevitable. After all, of the character very well interpreted by Stellan Skarsgard there was no trace in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’…
Obviously, Luna also appears in the episode, with her plot here having two main thrusts.. The first is that many escaped from prison but it seems that only two have managed to survive the escape -at least that we know-, a small reminder that it takes many to rise up against the Empire but that it will incur countless casualties. Of course, in the end the right people have to survive to take the necessary steps for the revolution to triumph. And each one will have their time to sacrifice.
Of course, ‘Andor’ does not forget the human dimension and Maarva’s death it also plays an essential role in the series, both to see how the forces of the Empire want to use it to their advantage, be it simply to get information or directly as a trap. And it is obvious that Cassian will not be able to avoid stopping by to say goodbye to his beloved stepmother…
In this way, ‘Daughter of Ferrix’ is an episode that keeps you tense throughout the episode, having special merit that in most cases it is achieved more by the promise of something that has to happen than by anything else. Also, the double denouement is terrific, offering first a great spectacle with Luthen’s escape, and then a much more intimate moment with Cassian’s discovery of Maarva’s death and the subsequent brief talk about the need for people to know what the Empire is doing.
That said, I suspect that there will be those who see a simple transition episode here before giving it their all with the season finale, but it is that one of the great virtues of ‘Andor’ is that it knows how to prepare everything and give it the necessary depth so that it is not things just happen in a galaxy far, far away. And chapters like ‘Daughter of Ferrix’ are essential for this.
