Moments of panic were experienced by students of a girls’ school located in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, after the facilities of the place began to burn in flames.
Between screams and an atmosphere of terror, the students ran to the highest parts of the facilities in search of refuge. However, the flames spread rapidly and the young women were forced to jump into the void to avoid being caught in the fire.

According to the first reports, a group of men approached to help the students get out of the windows. Minutes later, the fire brigade arrived in the area to mitigate the fire and provide medical attention.
To escape the fire, the students jumped from the roof of the building, from a height of ‘three meters’ and several students were injured because they fractured in the falls.

The Provincial Government of Lualaba reported a balance of 132 minors injured, 97 of them remain hospitalized for burns, fractures and nervous breakdowns. In addition, it was confirmed that eight of the students remain in serious condition.
It is still unknown how the flames that devastated the Mwang school classrooms at 9:00 am originated. However, the authorities have already begun an investigation to find the cause.
