Disney and Pixar have unveiled a spectacular new trailer for Lightyear, a film that hits theaters June 17 only in theaters.
Lightyear will be the first Pixar film to hit theaters since the restrictions in theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the rest of the studio’s films have been released directly on the streaming platform Disney+. The film tells the origin story of buzz lightyearthe hero who inspired the toy from the Toy Story saga, and who introduces us to the legendary Space Guardian who would end up with generations of fans.
“The world of Buzz has always fascinated me”director Angus MacLane has declared. “In Toy Story, the story of this Space Ranger was barely glimpsed and I always wanted to explore that world further.’ ‘What movie did Andy see to wish he had a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ This is the question I asked when presenting the Lightyear project and I wanted to see that film. And I’ve been lucky enough to make it happen.”
Chris Evans (Captain America) lends his voice to Buzz in the original version of the film along with Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi who make up a group of excellent recruits. Peter Sohn is the voice of Sox, Buzz’s robot sidekick, and the cast also features the voices of Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.
Angus MacLane, Annie Award-winning director and veteran Pixar animator who co-directed “Finding Dory” in 2016, is directing Lightyear. Galyn Susman (Toy Story Short: Time Lost) is producing.

The trailer shows Buzz trying to escape from a dangerous planet with his crew, however something comes out and they get trapped on it. When he tries to seek help in the company of his robotic pet in the form of a cat, he ends up crashing and joining a group that needs his help to face a fearsome army of robots.
