“With great sadness, from Alfaguara and on behalf of his family, we regret to inform you that this afternoon our great author and friend Javier Marías passed away in Madrid, suffering from pneumonia that he had suffered for a few weeks and that became complicated in the last few hours” , the publisher said in a statement.
Marías, who had suffered from pneumonia for a month, published 16 novels, including the trilogy “Your face tomorrow”published between 2002 and 2007.
His books have been translated into 46 languages and have sold almost nine million copies in 56 countriesaccording to the Alfaguara website.
Translator and columnist for the Spanish newspaper El País, Marías received several awards for his work.
Last year he was elected to the Royal Society of Literature british as an international writer.
