Alina Narciso, a former municipal police officer in Tijuana, Mexico, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for murdering her partner, who, in turn, was her hierarchical superior.
Alina said she acted in self-defense because her ex-husband used to abuse her. However, the judge and agents of the Public Ministry accused her of the crime of qualified homicide with advantage. In addition to the sentence, the former police officer will have to pay a sum of 428 thousand pesos for damage repair. Feminist groups have cataloged the sentence as an act of machismo, misogyny and injustice.
Alina was sentenced after being in prison for more than two years. However, the events occurred in December 2019, when she and her partner, Luis Rodrigo, argued at home. At that time, the two worked in the Secretariat of Public Security in Tijuana, Mexico.
During the trial, lawyers for the former police officer said that Luis tried to suffocate Alina. Also, he was holding a gun, which he used to hit her and try to kill her. After pleas and moments of tension, she managed to snatch the gun from him and shot him four times, killing him.
The investigations showed that Alina suffered constant physical and verbal abuse during the marriage, but the case was never treated with a gender perspective. In addition, during the autopsy of Luis, alcohol and cocaine were found.
Despite the fact that all possible evidence has been presented in favor of Alina, the judge and agents of the Public Ministry accused her of the crime of aggravated homicide.
At the end of the reading of the sentence, the former police officer addressed the authorities to thank them for showing the machismo that exists within the justice system through their case.
I thank the Prosecutor’s Office and this judge who supported my theory that this macho system favors men.

Socorro Tehuaxtle, Alina’s mother, said that they will appeal the ruling, since she does not agree with the sentence that her daughter has received, who has been re-victimized.
Of course we will appeal the ruling, because we are not happy with this ruling. The truth is excessive for me because she defended herself, the judge just doesn’t look at it and I don’t know why he doesn’t look at it. We have presented all the evidence we have and what we have is real. We are going to resort to the next instance, we have faith that we will achieve something.
Marina del Pilar, governor of Tijuana, said that she will provide support to Alina Narciso’s mother so that her case is analyzed from a gender perspective.
