Self-respecting millennial watched at least one episode of the hit Disney Channel series The Wizards of Waverly Placethat Show comedy that told us the story of the Russo brothers, a family from a legendary line of sorcerers who, after one of the three brothers married a mortal, must learn to use their powers correctly.
Among the main cast of actors who starred in the famous series produced by the house of Mickey Mouse, is Selena Gomez, who gave life to Alex Russo, a role that led her to jump to stardom. Recently, it was revealed that said character was bisexual and had a romantic relationship with Stevie Nichols, who was played by the American actress Hayley Kiyoko.
The chemistry between Alex and Stevie was more than friendship.
This news was shared by Peter Murrieta, writer and showrunner of the comedy series that aired on Disney Channel from 2007 to 2012, who, during an interview for the podcast Wizards of Waverly Podassured that the intention of the production was to show one of those characters as a bisexual person, but that perhaps it was something difficult to adapt due to the mentality that was had at that time.
According to Murrieta, despite the fact that the character played by Selena Gomez shows masculine interests throughout the three seasons of the program, by becoming romantically involved with two boys in the series, she also had some chemistry with Stevie Nichols, a teenager with whom establishes a friendship during the third season and that, as can be seen, it was too obvious that between them there was more than just a friendly relationship.
I wish we could have played more with what was pretty obvious to a lot of us, which was the relationship between Stevie and Alex. We couldn’t at the time, but it was pretty clear to all of us what that relationship was. Would have been fun.

Selena may have been Disney’s first bisexual character
Peter Murrieta confessed that the relationship between the characters played by Selena Gomez and Hayley Kiyoko is one of the stories that they would have liked to have developed further, since the attraction between the two was obvious, but due to the moment in which the story developed and based on the restrictions they had regarding certain topics, it was not possible for them.
It should be noted that the writer stated that he would have enjoyed further developing the characters in a more loving environment to the extent that both became a couple. In addition, he assured that the production got as close to the idea as possible, and despite being quite close to achieving it, they limited themselves to doing it openly, although for many viewers it was more than obvious.
This is how Hayley Kiyoko reacted to the scoop
Given the scoop given by Peter Murrieta in said podcast, the actress who gave life to Stevie Nichols did not hesitate to express herself on her social networks. Through her stories on her Instagram account, Hayley Kiyoko shared a couple of funny images and meme videos about how all of her characters from her past make them part of the LGBTQ community.
For her part, Selena Gomez has not commented on the subject, since she may be quite busy with the recordings of the third season of the series. Only Murders in the Buildingwhich she announced on her networks by publishing a photo dressed as a bride.
