As the famous phrase says “the news of the cancellation has been exaggerated”. Or so Jonathan Kasdan seems to want to tell us. The creator of ‘Willow’, the television sequel to the classic film, has taken to social media to ensure that the Disney+ series It’s not that it’s cancelled, it’s that they’ve taken a break… and it will take time to see season 2.
Thus, Kasdan has revealed that they have been working on what they call the “Volume II” of the series but, nevertheless, they have had to make difficult decisions because the production is stopped indefinitely. One decision, which is the one that set off the alarms, has been to release the actors from their contracts.
Written but undated to produce
This is how the producer and screenwriter explains it in a long text in which he assures that they have already written said volume II:
The truth is less striking, but here goes: A decision was made last week to free up our main cast for other series opportunities that may come their way in the coming year. With all the TV and movie productions around the world, you’re going to need them again. This is further simplified by the simple reality that the scripts we are working on require many actors (from our first season) with whom there is no contractual ties. Nothing prevents, for example, Annabelle Davis from signing for another series, but go believing that Mims will appear in each of the chapters of Volume II.»
However, when we will see this new season (or if we will even see it) it’s all unknown whose answer lies in a streaming industry that is “slowing down”, so to speak:
“If you’re wondering what this means to you as a viewer, or to me as a creator, here’s what it means: Due to forces much broader and more intricate than I dare fully understand, the production of streaming series They’re slowing down across the industry and ‘Willow’ won’t be back on set for the next 12 months.”
Kasdan goes on to explain that scontinue with unconditional support from Lucasfilm and Disneywith whom they have developed a “Volume II fun, richer, darker and better” with the survival of the Wyrm; In addition, he comments that it is not the first series to have a long break between seasons.
So while the season is scripted, It will take a long time to resume production of the series. A case that is quite reminiscent of other series such as ‘MINDHUNTER’ which, although it does not have an official cancellation, is considered more dead than alive.
