It was one of the revelation series of 2021, with the recognition of the Feroz awards, and soon we will have new episodes. I’m talking about ‘Cardo’, the fiction of Atresplayer Premium whose second season will arrive in 2023.
A new installment that, they promise, will be quite different from the inaugural one and about which we are going to highlight everything we know.
The history
One of the great novelties is the time jump that we are going to find: three years. María (Ana Rujas) is released from prison after the events of the first season and he will try to get his life back and be what society tells him he should be. However, the darkest and most self-destructive part of him is still present, trying to regain control.
In the words of Claudia Costafreda, co-creator with Rujas of the series, the idea is to explore the new emotional place in which María finds herself, who is also turning to faith:
«Maria is the opposite of what we know of Maria, she takes a complete personal turn. Maria has to deal with guilt. She has the word guilt tattooed on her face, on her chest, on her entire body. We have moved to another emotional place which is where we are right now. The series goes in an unexpected direction because we wanted to surprise ourselves the first to get to another place.»
Something that the screenwriter and director completes by ensuring that:
«For us Cardo 2 was a challenge, because the first season is very recent. What we set out to do was do something different that would stimulate us, tell other stories, see a different Maria. If we didn’t make an evolution to play other songs, we didn’t feel like it.»
The cast
Ana Rujas stars in the series as María. Next to her we will also have again Diego Ibáñez, Ana Telenti, Clara Sans, Pilar Gómez, Victoria Santos, Joan Solé, Alba Galocha and Edu Tudela with the notorious additions of Arrieta Villa, Nur Olabarría and Nassim Lyes.
The filming
‘Cardo’ has already finished filming. This past summer, specifically in June, production began in Madrid of the six episodes of this season 2, all directed by Claudia Costafreda. Costafreda and Rujas sign the scripts for four of these episodes, with Lluís Sellarès writing the other two.
the release date
From Atresplayer they have not yet been encouraged to specify the premiere date of this season 2. We do know that it will be in 2023.
the trailer
Within the framework of the San Sebastian Festival, Atresmedia released the trailer with the first images of this second season, with a Maria insisting on her change but, in turn, falling into her usual vices.
