This is one of the news that makes us very happy. It was recently announced that the Tamaulipas Congress approved a reform to the State Civil Code to stop indicating that marriage was only between a man and a woman. This means that in all the states of our country, same-sex marriage will already be legal!
With 23 votes in favor, 12 against and one abstention, the Tamaulipas legislators modified article 132 of the Code to remove the specifications of “man and woman”, for which it was stated that any person of legal age can marry.
It is worth mentioning that Tamaulipas was the only state that failed to accept civil marriage between people of the same gender, while the Congress of Guerrero carried out a similar reform. Of course, some citizens did not agree with this reform and religious groups interrupted the session that the local deputies had to carry out in another room in order to continue.
However, not only the opponents were present, members of the LGBT + community also remained attentive to the decision of the deputies, who later agreed to celebrate.
This is what the Tamaulipas Congress looks like prior to the discussion and vote of the #Equality marriage.
24 votes are needed, two thirds of the plenary, since the PAN members shielded the Constitution so that it cannot be approved by a simple majority.
