Without a doubt I am Groot is one more example that humor suits these characters wonderfully, as well as an ideal pretext to review what creatives like Skottie Young have done.

If Marvel has learned something, for several years within the world of cartoons, it is to take its characters beyond the superhero mold and take advantage of them in the places of different mixes of genres, resulting in titles that have become watersheds or even in cult objects, say the epic Planet Hulk or the sinister and ironic Marvel Zombies.

Now with regard to its transfer to the screen, and with more than 10 years working to consolidate itself as an interconnected Universe, this has come little by little.
However, and after what was the spectacular closure of Phase 3, such possibilities have been opened via Loki-type productions, with their dissertations of philosophical overtones; Moon Knight, who treads the terrain of the thriller; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is dressed in horror, and of course Thor: Love and Thunder, which is presented as a mythological comedy.
I am Groot!
Following that same line, now it’s Groot’s turn from Guardians of the Galaxy, who with the series of shorts I am Groot is the one chosen to bring a good dose of tenderness to the MCU, fully exploiting the field of fantasy.
Taking advantage of the fact that Groot spends his time jumping from planet to planet, those in charge of the series make valid the freedom that comes as a consequence, to offer a waste of creativity in the elaboration of creatures and scenarios. The same that range from unusual birds and miniature civilizations, to liquid and unclassifiable spatial beings, within the disturbing corners of a ship or dazzling and rarefied landscapes using the photorealistic technique.
In contrast, what they cannot completely overcome is that, being such small passages, the plot transcends the anecdotal. That is why they are leaving in the air the suggestion of some good notes regarding the awareness of the physical changes typical of Groot’s development, as well as the learning that should lead him to achieve that desire for sacrifice and the status of a pure soul. who wears his adult version during his film debut.
Fun for all the ages
Fortunately, each one of the jokes in question is raised and contextualized with ingenuity, managing to materialize either through their relationship with smaller beings -although no less intelligent for that-, or in the rivalry with a kind of bonsai, the fickleness of feelings and unconscious cruelty that become characteristics of the childhood stage.
It is the latter that gives a certain consistency to a product whose priority is obviously entertainment focused on children, and satisfying those who have been hooked with the undeniable sympathy of the protagonist, something in which it certainly fulfills despite being more of a a mere curiosity, yes, very nice and charming.
Undoubtedly, I Am Groot, which arrives on Disney Plus, is one more example that humor suits these characters wonderfully, as well as an ideal pretext to review what the good Skottie Young, an expert in humor, has done with them. cartoon type, whose style has marked a trend within comics
