The FIA did not penalize Red Bull with a retroactive loss of points for this “minor” breach of 1.6% of the limit ($2.15m).
The Austrian team thus retains its title of drivers’ world champion obtained in 2021 by the Dutchman Max Verstappen.
Red Bull is the only team to have broken the budget cap, first set in Formula 1 for the 2021 season and later set at $145m.
The FIA praised Red Bull’s “cooperation” in resolving the case, which was revealed by the body on October 10, and believes the team did not intend to act “in bad faith or dishonestly”.
Another extenuating circumstance, according to the FIA, was “the first year” of the financial regulations, “a very complex set of rules” to which the ten elite teams of world motorsport had to submit.
The Austrian team will have a reduced wind tunnel time for twelve monthscrucial for the development of future single-seaters.
On Sunday, the twentieth date (antepenultimate) of 2022 will be run in the capital of Mexico with Verstappen already consecrated world champion and Red Bull monarch among the teams.
