February 2021: back
The year 2021 starts badly for Nadal who postpones his planned comeback in the ATP Cup due to back pain and loses in the quarterfinals in Australia against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
August 2021: left foot
The Spaniard ends his season early and explains that he has suffered from Müller-Weiss disease for years, a rare pathology in a bone in his left foot that causes him chronic pain. In September he undergoes surgery.
March 2022: Cracked Rib
Finalist in Indian Wells, after a semifinal against his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, Nadal misses several tournaments due to a cracked rib during the Californian tournament.
July 2022: abs
Victim of an abdominal tear, Nadal beat American Taylor Fitz in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, but threw in the towel the next day and gave up playing in the semifinals against Australian Nick Kyrgios.
January 2023: hip
Nadal injures his hip during an already uphill match against the American Mackenzie McDonald, who ends up eliminating him in the second round of the Australian Open.
“It hurts, as always, but in the end the glass fills up (…) and there comes a time when the water can come out,” he later said at a press conference.
