At this point in the movie, this shouldn’t be surprising, but you only have to watch a handful of interviews, listen to a podcast, or even an extra DVD or Blu-ray of one of his movies to realize that Quentin Tarantino is a living encyclopedia of cinema. Now, luckily, the once terrible kid of the seventh art, will share his knowledge with earthly beings with his ‘Cinema Speculation’.
A potential master class
As has been known for a long time, the good Tarantino intends to put an end to his journey as a film director after his tenth film, and then dedicate himself to other tasks such as writing books. To whet your appetite, the filmmaker adapted his magnificent ‘Once upon a time in… Hollywood’ into a novel, and now he promises conveying his passion for cinema from half a century ago with his new job.
‘Cinema Speculation’, which will be published in the United States by Harper Collins, will be a review of the American titles that fell in love with the author throughout the 70sand its official synopsis reads as follows:
“In addition to being among the most celebrated contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is arguably the most cheerfully contagious cinephile alive. For years, he’s sold his future turn toward writing books about movies in interviews. Now, with ‘Cinema Speculation,’ that time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for.Structured around key American films of the 1970s, which he saw as a young viewer around that time. So this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is funny and entertaining. At once film criticism, film theory, reporting, and a wonderful personal story, it’s all written in a singular and immediately recognizable voice as Quentin Tarantino’s, and with the exceptional perspective on cinema from one of the greatest practitioners of this art form”.
Few professors come to my mind to delve into the history of American cinema than Quentin Tarantino. In order to get hold of what promises to be a full-fledged master class, we will have to wait until October 25 of this year, when it will go on sale, for now, in the language of Shakespeare. Let’s hope it arrives soon to our lands.
