Gone are the events of Avengers: Endgame, Scott Lang begins to enjoy celebrity status next to Hope Van Dyne, who has focused his efforts on leading the destinies of Pym Tech.
Scott has only one purpose, to be an exemplary father to Cassie Lang, who is now a young girl with an interest in helping those displaced by the blip, as well as in science, motivated by Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Which leads him to build a device that sends the signal to the Quantum Realm, something Janet sees as a danger.
But it isn’t long before the new Pym-Lang family arrives in the Quantum Realm, where in their quest to return home they encounter great dangers, including the presence of Kang: The Conqueror.
Does the MCU know Star Wars?
In general terms for this review, this fifth phase of the MCU presents us with the most dangerous face of the Quantum Realm, which is strongly inspired by the Star Wars saga, introducing us to different characters and ecosystems that fight for survival.
Characters like Quaz and Jentorra stand out as this “rebel” part, but other members of this Quantum Realm society feel like characters who didn’t make it into Thor: Love and Thunder.
Unfortunately, the script doesn’t help this quantum realm, which, far from feeling like something interesting, offers itself as a series of interconnected anecdotes.
Kang has arrived!… and he doesn’t arrive alone
In the first season of Loki we met He Who Reminds, played by Jonathan Majors, who returns as the great villain of the third installment of Ant-Man.
Majors outshines the protagonists of the story with a performance that balances the dark side of a villain and the need for a scientist who seeks to explore different places in the Multiverse.
But Kang doesn’t arrive alone as the threat of this story, as it features a MODOK-wielding squire, played by Corey Stoll, now obsessed with being the most sophisticated Killing Machine in Kang’s service.
If you watched the MODOK animated series, Stoll took a lot of inspiration from this show, convincing us to be a corrected and augmented lout, just looking to prove his loyalty to the Conqueror.
Experience prevails over youth
Paul Rudd once again delivers exciting and hilarious moments as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Even his ability to break the tension at pressing moments helps a plot that at times falls into the gloomy and monotonous.
The tape could well be called Ant-Man returns to the Quantum Realm. While Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer showcase her experience on stage, Evangeline Lilly doesn’t get as much screen time, even if she’s low-key.
The incorporation of Kathryn Newton is a must. Although the actress excelled in works like Freaky, in the third installment of Ant-Man she does not have a great charisma like little Abby Ryder-Fortson in the previous films (They lose grace when they grow up).
SMASH Verdict ⭐⭐
Although Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the start of phase 5 of the MCU, this proposal stands out from the two previous installments, being more somber, there is not even as much comedy, compared to its predecessors, added to the fact that the dull script to emotion.
The rhythm of the tape feels heavy, and the plot gets bogged down in the explanations of the history of various characters who are in the Quantum Realm.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is not the ideal start to phase five of the MCU, although it does deliver us to the great threat of this second Marvel Studios saga.

Everyone likes teams, especially Ant-Man, SMASH and Marvel Comics México
Scott Lang’s completely new and different life as Ant-Man is a social whirlwind… which includes teaming up with Sam Wilson, the new Captain America! But Scott’s reunion with his ex-girlfriend Darla Deering, aka Miss Mole, could prove a lot less amicable.
Business is booming, but Scott is still a little man with gigantic problems. Like his daughter, his love life, an old enemy standing in his way, and Hench, the supervillain app that is sending a constant stream of enemies his way.
SMASH and Marvel Comics Mexico bring you Astonishing Ant-Man: Everyone likes teams. A series by Nick Spencer that will expand your cinematographic experience
