The premiere of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ was seen as a tremendous success for getting the best data from this led by paul rudd to date, but I already warned you that Marvel had reason to start worrying and now the definitive confirmation has arrived with the film sinking in US theaters during its second weekend.
Worrying
The film directed by Peyton Reed has suffered the biggest drop in history for a Marvel movie during that period, with an estimated drop of between 70% and 72%. The negative record so far was held by ‘Black Widow’ with a decrease of 67.8%, followed closely by ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ with 67.6%.
This means that ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ would enter an additional 32 million dollars, thus raising its total in theaters in that country to 167.2 million. A very high figure, but one that must be relativized, since cost a whopping 200 million dollars. It still needs to be profitable, which it will surely achieve, but I doubt by much.
All in all, there are superhero movies that have suffered worse declines during their second weekend – for example, ‘Morbius’ lost 73.8% last year – but it is clear that at Marvel they can’t be happy with this. And it is that ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ was being sold as the great launch of Phase 5 of his superhero universe and a key film regarding his future…
In Espinof: ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ is paying the piper for Disney’s strategy, despite having just what Marvel needs in its phase 5
