Proof that Chiara Ferragni’s “naked” Dior dress at the 2023 Sanremo Festival is a copy of Jean Paul Gaultier from 1994

Last night Italy celebrated its mythical sanremo festival to decide which song would go to Eurovision 2023 (A kind of Benidorm Fest with a lot of history and impact). This year the edition had the participation of Chiara Ferragni as the presenter of the gala, and how could it be otherwise, the most famous Italian on social networks let herself be seen and talked about with her choice of outfits. Marking a Cristina Pedroche, her protest and feminist outfits did not leave anyone indifferent.

However, the most striking of all emulated the naked female body. Signed by Dior and presented as the most original piece of the moment, the truth is that the RRSS did not take long to demonstrate the lack of originality that was hidden behind that design with evidence that shows that the original creator of that design dates from 1994 and signs it Jean Paul Gaultier.

Chiara Ferragni and the controversial look at the 2023 Sanremo Festival

Although we may think that 29 years can erase people’s memories, social networks are fast, clever and very effective, which is why the Italian’s euphoria did not last long before seeing how her star dress of the night was cataloged of copy. Baptized with the name of “The Shameless Dress” and, according to the influencer herself, inspired by a dress from the house of 2018, which in turn was inspired by the work “Eva” by Lucas Cranach d. Ä, the truth is that the result is (very much) more like a Jean Paul Gaultier that Naomi Campbell wore in 1994 to pose in front of Paolo Roversi’s lens, than Maria Grazia Chiuri’s own creation.

Although on that occasion the dress was presented in a tight jumpsuit, the truth is that the garments are (very) similar: vindicating the beauty of the female body, this look wanted to “return attention to the rights of women, their bodies and how disposition of the female body by them, unfortunately, is still considered controversial and questionable.

However, and although the Italian has flashed all the press with the choice of her looks, the truth is that with this dress (the most praised) she has not discovered America. Without going any further, in 2020 Doja Cat opted for a groundbreaking piece for her performance at the AVN Awards.

In addition, Cardi B did the same in one of her performances in Miami last December 2022 with the famous Jean Paul Gaultier bodysuit.

As if that weren’t enough, @insidethemood also reminds us that Shea Couleé walked in a similar piece a couple of years ago on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

To round out the loop, the Instagram account reminds us that two years ago, in the Sanremo 2021 edition, the singer Madame wore the Dior dress that they were supposedly inspired by last night.

At the end of it all, in fashion almost everything is invented and taking credit for an “original” idea that we have actually seen many times detracts from the force of the message we want to send. Likewise, last night the Italian businesswoman shone with her own light and we were amazed by each and every one of her looks.
