Manchester United’s game against Leeds United on Sunday was also postponed, as was Brighton & Hove Albion’s game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the league said.
English football’s governing body had already postponed all of last weekend’s matches out of respect for the longest-serving monarch in UK historywho died at his home in Scotland on September 8 at the age of 96.
“Seven of this weekend’s 10 Premier League games will be played, with three games postponed due to events surrounding the queen’s funeral,” the Premier League said in a statement.
“After extensive consultation with the clubs, the police, local security advisory groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option… for matches played during the National Mourning period, tributes will be paid to the queen in Premier League stadiums“, he added.
Manchester United said their match was postponed because Greater Manchester Police are “supporting forces across the UK at major venues and events” following the queen’s death. New dates for the rearranged matches will be announced in due course, the league added.
