This year we are having some really fat anime premieres, because with the pardon of little gems like ‘The Stag King’ or ‘Goodbye, Don Glees!’, movies from several of the most important franchises of the moment have come upon us.
‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ had us in suspense during the first half of the year with its spectacular collection, but ‘One Piece Film Red’ It has only been in Japanese theaters for just over a month and has already managed to climb several positions among the highest-grossing films in Japanese history.
Another victory for the Straw Hat Pirates
‘One Piece Film Red’ was already eating ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’, but now it has also managed to surpass ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’, which until now was the star anime film of the year.
In Japan, box office data from December to November are taken into account, so the prequel to ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ falls within the measurements of the year. By now the MAPPA movie had swept everything away, but in its first month ‘One Piece Film Red’ has grossed 13.87 billion yen (about 100.33 million euros).
So ‘OnePiece’ Y Toei Animation are in the lead with the year’s box office, but it’s also already Japan’s eighth-highest-grossing anime film of all time, just behind ‘Weather With You’.
Since it has been in theaters for so little time, it should not be ruled out that it will still manage to climb a few more positions. In addition, its international journey will begin shortly, and specifically in Spain we will be able to see ‘One Piece Film Red’ starting next November 3.
