Paris is already the first European capital to ban this type of vehicle.
This referendum was called after an increasing number of accidents caused by these vehicles in the French capital. Only in 2022 there were 408 accidents, in which 3 people died and 459 were injured.
Although a very low participation was registered, since less than 8% of the possible voters went to vote.
Of the 1.38 million people registered on the city’s electoral roll, only about 103,000 participated, according to official figures. Of those, more than 91,300 voted against skateboards.
Paris, which in recent years has introduced numerous initiatives to promote sustainable transport and reduce the use of cars in the city, was one of the first capitals to adopt these electric vehicles in 2018. At the time, up to 12 different companies operated in its streets.
