moon knight gave Marvel Studios the perfect opportunity to make a reference to a major Marvel villain, but it ultimately didn’t happen
The Disney+ and Marvel Studios series Moon Knight took a deep dive into Egyptian mythology, but Marvel Studios didn’t take the opportunity to make any references to Rama-Tut. A variant of Kang the Conqueror, this Nathaniel Richards traveled back in time and ended up ruling Ancient Egypt with advanced 30th century technology after being trapped there; him coming to cross his paths with Khonshu himself.
There is a good chance that Rama-Tut has been reserved for a future project of moon knight, but he is almost referenced in the Disney+ series. The series’ lead writer, Jeremy Slater, confirmed that he had himself in mind in the creative process, when asked about the
“There was a line in the script, and I don’t know if it survived. I can not remember. But there was a line where I think Steven is reciting some Egyptian history that he’s locked away in his brain, and he mentioned Rama-Tut.”confirmed the writer. “I don’t remember if that scene, if that line is still in the series. But it was so small, it was him mentioning a list of famous pharaohs.”.
However, if there is a subtle easter egg of the Marvel villain
In the comics, Kang’s Rama-Tut character was originally a villain from The Fantastic Fourbefore facing the Avengers in other stories.
His most notable matchup against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes came in Avengers Vol. 7 Nº4, which inspired an Easter egg in moon knight. Rama-Tut in this story wears an elaborate pharaoh headdress, which can be seen on the back of a character’s jacket in the third episode of the Disney+ series.
It’s a shame that the reference to Rama-Tut was finally removed from the series, moon knight it was one of the perfect places to drop a subtle Easter egg, while at the same time establishing a base for the villain to continue to be on everyone’s lips before reappearing in Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
As the story in the MCU progresses and the world prepares for the arrival of Kang as one of the great villains of this Cinematic Universe, hopefully, more scenarios for the iconic villain will appear in various projects. When moon knightreturn with a new season, the character played by Jonathan Major will have already debuted in Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
