Chete Lera had the look of a good person and the soul of a purebred actor. From his first appearance in ‘Todo por la pasta’, in 1991, to his final appearance in the series ‘Look what you have done’, he has become one of the most recognizable supporting actors in Spanish cinema. He was never nominated for a Goya, nor did he need to: his mere presence was already a prize for others. Yesterday afternoon, Chete Lera died after a traffic accident in Malaga, and the audiovisual world mourns his loss, how could it be otherwise.
Today the day is gray
At 72 years old, Lera was still in top form. Throughout his career we have been able to see him working with Alejandro Amenábar in his legendary role in ‘Abre los ojos’, with Montxo Armendáriz in ‘Secretos del corazón’, Fernando León de Aranoa in ‘Familia’, Julio Medem in ‘La ardilla Roja’ or Icíar Bollaín in ‘Flowers from another world’. There was no role that fell short.
Winner of the Malaga festival award for best cast for the sadly forgotten ‘Smoking room’, Lera had an extensive theatrical career that he combined with important roles in cinema or even guest appearances on televisionin series such as ‘The ministry of time’ or ‘Cuéntame how it happened’.

Chete Lera He was one of the most beloved actors in Spanish cinema: people like Berto Romero, Eduardo Noriega, Hugo Silva or Lidia San José have wanted to say goodbye to him. The latter wanted to say goodbye by remembering how she treated a twelve-year-old girl who had just started filming ‘The Invisible Child’: “No wonder the day in Madrid is gray today.”
