Some months ago Nicolas Cage He declared himself a student of the science fiction genre, and although he is not against the saga of “Star Wars” he considers himself a big fan of “Star Trek”. Now, receiving a lifetime achievement award for her at the Miami Film Festival The actor gave his opinion on various topics, such as Marvel Studios movies and especially his relationship with a superhero.
“I have to be nice to Marvel movies, because My stage name is based on a Stan Lee character named Luke Cage. What am I going to do, ignore the movies Marvel? Stan Lee is my surreal father. He named me. I understand what the frustration is (towards those films), I understand it. But I think there is an opportunity for everyone.”
Cage has never denied his fondness for everything related to the Superman character -to the extent that he named one of his sons Kal-El- and in 1997 he was about to play the man of steel in a film that would be directed by Tim Burton and that finally it was not carried out: “I called him to direct it, and he said yes. At the time Tim had just directed “Mars attacks”, a great movie, but it did not get the expected results. The character we worked on was like the 80s Superman, but with long black hair, samurai type, it was going to be very different, something like an “emo Superman”, but it was never done”.
Finally, Nicolas commented that his favorite movie genres are science fiction, horror and drama: “I like movies that show people succumbing to the pressures of the human experience…I watch movies like “Tár”. I watch all kinds of art and independent movies. I think there’s plenty of room for everyone.”
