Although Tony Stark and Steve Rogers smoothed things out before the final battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, Samuel L. Jackson revealed in a round table organized by The Hollywood Reporter that he complained about the absence of Nick Fury in said film.
“I complained to them, I still complain to them, about ‘Civil War’ because I’m like, ‘How could kids fight and Nick Fury not show up?’ Like, ‘What’s going on here? Everyone go to his room… But you didn’t need me for that… You did, but you didn’t“.
Jackson repeatedly said he was confused at not being required for Civil War, but understood that this tape was a development compared to Avengers in 2012, where the team members know each other.
“The initial film was to introduce these people to who they are and these are the things they can do. Now that’s how they interact and not all of them are nice”
Why wasn’t Nick Fury in Civil War?
Although the absence of Samuel L. Jackson in Civil War was missed by fans, the screenwriter of the film that opened phase three of the MCU, Christopher Markus, pointed out that Nick Fury was needed in a neutral position in the long-term plan. in this conflict.
“We didn’t want him to take one side or the other because that’s not his place in the universe.”
The return of Samuel L. Jackson in phase three occurred in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War and in the plot of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Jackson will return as Nick Fury in the Marvel Studios Secret Invasion series, which could be released on digital platforms in 2023
