Shared accounts on Netflix Spain are already history and, although we knew that this moment would come, we did not imagine that it would be in such a controversial way for worsening the user experience. More than 60% of Netflix users shared an account and, although many are announcing on Twitter that they are giving up renewing their subscription on the platform streamingIt’s not bad how their new plans and prices look in case we regret it or, with some juicy premiere, we want to make a hiatus from the strike.
5.99 euros extra per person
Although, in 2017, Netflix promoted itself on the premise that sharing your account password on the platform was a token of lovenow they back off and explain that “Netflix accounts are meant to be shared in the same household.” So, what will happen now with those friends, exes and relatives who do not live with the account holder?
From now on, each person outside the household to which each account is associated will have to pay 5.99 euros per month extra if you want to continue enjoying the content that, until now, you saw “from the cap”. However, this possibility is not available in all plans. They can only benefit from it: the standard and the premium.
It is also worth knowing that this extra monthly cost will be billed to the Netflix account holder. The platform has already begun contacting its subscribers in Spain to determine their main location before February 21.
Cohabiting accounts
However, those who live in the same household, despite being able to share an account at no additional cost, will also experience changes in their user experience. And it is that multiple profiles within an account are over, now each user has to access their own to be able to view contenteven if it is associated with another of a cohabitant.
The only facility offered by the platform is to transfer an existing profile from those that, until now, were used to share Netflix to a new account or as an extra profile outside the home. In this way, the viewing history will not be lost.recommendations and content lists.
Plans to watch Netflix
First of all we have the basic plan with ads that Netflix released a few months ago. It is a subscription with a cost of 5.49 euros per month with quite a few limitations: ads are shown before and during series and movies, video quality is HD up to 720p on a single compatible device (phone, tablet, computer or TV). This type of subscription does not allow you to share an account or add an extra user outside your home, nor does it allow you to download content to view it without an internet connection.
Second, there is the basic plan without ads At a price of 7.99 euros per month. This plan only allows one simultaneous screen and only one device can be registered to download content and watch it offline. The video quality is also HD up to 720p, so large screens or 4K suffer.
Third, we have the standard subscription, which costs 12.99 euros per month. Also, without paying extra, another person living in the same address can watch different content simultaneously on their devices. It also allows downloading on two different devices or tablets. On this plan, video quality improves to Full HD up to 1080p. Also allows adding a single extra subscriber that is outside the home of the main user (as we have already seen, for 5.99 euros more per month).
Lastly, Netflix’s most expensive plan is the premiumwhich per month comes out for €17.99. It allows up to four simultaneous screens of cohabiting accounts. In the case of extra users who live at a different address from the owner, this subscription allows you to add up to two more. It also adds other services such as being able to download on four different devices and ultra HD video quality of 4K and HDR. Of course, not all the content of the catalog is in this type of resolution.
