That the success of many Netflix releases fades as quickly as it appears is well known. For this reason, many wondered if the streaming platform would finally give its arm to twist in terms of premiere model (weekly chapter instead of its current strategy, release it all at once) with season 5 of ‘Stranger Things’.
Time to change?
If any series could make Netflix rethink its model, this is it. With the first part of season 4 still recent, ‘Stranger Things’ has been confirmed as the most profitable audiovisual product on the platform. Looking ahead to a possible fifth and final season, seemed the perfect occasion to space out its broadcast and so gain popularity with each week and stay in the conversation.
peter friedlanderhead of Netflix series programming in the US and Canada, has spoken on the subject, clarifying that Netflix will not change its premiere strategy, not even for the end of its most successful series:
This is how fans of ‘Stranger Things’ have been watching the series and I think that changing it would be disappointing for them (…) We are convinced that we want to give our users the possibility to choose how they watch our series (…) This is what we believe truly honors our relationship with our users and their expectations.
On possibility of a spin-off After the fifth season, previously commented by the creators of ‘Stranger Things’, the Duffer brothers, Friedlander has pointed out that Netflix’s internal conversations are “highly confidential” and that, when they have something to announce, they will make it “loud and Sure”.
So, it seems that we will not see changes in the future premiere of season 5. For now, what remains of season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’ continues as planned and will be uploaded to the platform on July 1.
