In the midst of all the scissors that Netflix has been accustoming us to, ‘The Empress‘ has come out very well and the platform has already confirmed that the series will continue with more chapters.

The german period drama focuses on the empress Elizabeth of Austriawhom we also know as “Sisi”, and his relationship with the emperor Francisco Jose. The first season premiered in September and has done very well internationally, so the announcement of a second season has not been long in coming.

    More palace drama and salsa

There are still not too many details about the second season of ‘The Empress’, nor a tentative release date, so at the earliest we would have to wait for it in 2023.

“I am incredibly grateful that we have been able to reach so many different people in Germany and around the world with our series,” said series creator Katharina Eyssen. “Isabel’s life story is a story about the power of love, but also about the courage to be different and the hope for a better future, and that’s what we need right now. That’s why we’re so happy to continue.” telling this exciting story.

Period dramas are a good bet for Netflix, because between ‘The Crown’ and ‘The Bridgertons’ (apart from the differences between the two), palace soap operas end up among the most watched series on the platform. Although it started with modest success, thanks to word of mouth ‘The Empress’ he appears to have gained traction beyond Germany with his version of the Empress story.

“It’s wonderful to see that our own interpretation of this popular historical figure has generated so much interest and excitement with so many people. It shows that people want to see more of Elizabeth,” said Katja Hofem, Netflix’s Vice President of Content for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. .
