Don’t Stop Reading: The Sandman Features a Two-Part Bonus Chapter
Fans immediately started a social media campaign for The Sandman season 2 to be announced soon. While, in an interview with Total Film, Neil Gaiman talked about his plans for a hypothetical second season.
“The second season would essentially start with the rematch between Lucifer and Morpheus. The rematch to end all rematches. Lucifer isn’t going to let things end the way Lucifer let things end at the end of episode 4, this is going to be a lot darker, but it’s also going to go places that people don’t expect.”
And he continued giving a wink about new characters: “The Silver City is the place where angels live. Lucifer is very much a fallen angel and you have that incredible beauty of Gwendoline Christie, and her presence, and her gloriousness. But the idea of meeting some angels from the City of Silver? That would definitely be something we would want to see happen.”
Neil Gaiman calls on fans to get The Sandman season 2 done
Netflix recently released an extra chapter of the first season of The Sandman which includes two of the most successful stories of the original comic: The Dream of a Thousand Cats and Calliope.
Shortly before the chapter was released, Twitter user @m0ns3_cx questioned Neil Gaiman about a possible second installment, to which the writer replied: “No. No word or decision from @netflix about future seasons. They’ll want to see how we do in the first month before committing. This is something else”.
And after the bonus episode was released, Twitter user @ItHadtoBeYou_ took to social media to ask Gaiman about the added episode. The user wrote: “Dear @neilhimself, are these episodes meant to be seen at the end or between which episodes? I’m going to rewatch the whole thing anyway, but I’d like to know.”
In response, the author wrote on his Twitter account: “In the end. Between seasons, I guess.”
And added a request for fans of the series: “You need them before the second season (if we have a second season). Please encourage all your friends who do not know what Sandman is to watch @Netflix_Sandman so that let’s have a season 2).”
