One of the main dishes that amazed —and made us squirm in our seats— many of us who attended the Sitges Festival in 2014 was ‘Goodnight Mommy’; an overwhelming Austrian production directed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz whose proposal in the key of terror elegantly hybridized the icy mechanisms that we associate with the cinema of authors such as Michael Haneke and the grotesque delights of the torture porn.

As usual when a European feature film makes more noise than expected, its American remake was a matter of time. After learning that Matt Sobel —’New flavor of cherry’— would go behind the scenes to direct Naomi Watts, we can finally get a first look at his ‘Good night mom‘ in the trailer that you can see on these lines.
It may be because of the tone of the preview or because of the material chosen, but, personally, the first impression that this new version has given me, in addition to suggesting a null narrative evolution, seems to have lost the aesthetic and tonal claim that made the original so special. However, it will be necessary to give it a chance before sentencing.
