Marvel Studios presented at SDCC a small preview of what we can expect from the animated series X-Men 97, with a surprising revelation
Marvel Studios has decided to relaunch the legendary X-Men animated series that ran from October 1992 to September 1997. This series took advantage of the world’s largest comic book and turned the X-Men into very familiar characters for everyone, not just for comic readers.
Starting from the legendary stage of Chris Claremont in The Uncanny X-Men, this series also introduced what many would know as the main roster of X-Men going forward. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Beast, Gambit, Rogue and Jubilo. All led by the most powerful mutant of all, Professor Charles Xavier. And while Professor X is commonly considered the de facto leader of ALL X-Men teams, X-Men 97 plans to take a different approach in pseudo-season 6 of the animated series.
the big reveal
Marvel studios presented yesterday at their San Diego Comic panel with what we can expect from X-Men 97. Showing the first images of the animated series, which included the quintessential villain of the team of mutants, Magneto, who was presented with a look very different from the one he wore in the 90s series. However, this was not the only revelation about the character, since they have also confirmed that Magneto will be the leader of the group of mutant superheroes.
The new costume suggests that since the series finale in 1997, Magneto has taken on a leading role in the team of mutants he fought against in the past and has shed his trademark helmet. Which suggests that there will also be big changes in the story, compared to the original series.
In both comics, animation, and live-action movies, Magneto has always displayed a conflict of interest. Working alongside his old friend Charles Xavier or fighting each other despite having a common goal.
The fact that Marvel studios establishes the villain as the leader of the team of mutants in its first official production of the X-Men is an undoubtedly shocking move. What do you think?
X-men 97 will be released in Disney+ next year.
