More wood from the D23! The event organized by La casa del mouse continues its barrage of announcements and news on a first day focused on brands Disney and Pixar; and, after the first trailer for the live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ and the launch of a sequel to the brilliant ‘Inside Out’, it’s time review the rest of the feature film projects that will surely attract the eyes of the fandom.
‘Mufasa: Lion King’
The first of them is ‘Mufasa: Lion King’, a film directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins —’Moonlight’— which will tell the origin story of Simba’s father, and in which the young versions of Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa will appear; these last two being played again by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, who already lent their voices to the characters in Jon Favreau’s ‘The Lion King’.
After showing a first look at the film that will arrive in 2024 —unreleased at the moment for ordinary mortals—, in which production design is repeated of the 2019 film, Jenkins gave some clue about what we can find in it.
“Mufasa was really an orphaned cub who had to make his way in the world on his own, and by telling this story we get to experience the journey of how Mufasa found his place in the circle of life.”
‘Snow White’
On the other hand we have the real-action remake of ‘Snow White’, which will star Rachel Zegler —’West Side Story’— and Gal Gadot, which will give life to the perfidious Evil Queen. In a short 30-second teaser that was projected for the audience, both actresses could be seen in their roles and elements as iconic as the poisoned apple.
This new version of ‘Snow White’ is directed by Marc Webb, responsible for ‘500 days together’ and of the two ‘Spider-Man’ films starring Andrew Garfield, it has a script by Erin Cressida Wilson and Greta Gerwig and will be released in 2024.
To get an idea of what awaits us, we can read the words he spoke Zegler after showing the progress.
“Snow White is the girl you remember, but she’s definitely created for the current age. There’s a lot of emphasis on what it means to be the fairest of all. For Snow White, it’s all about finding her voice and her will so she can be a ruler.” impartial and fair”.
‘Peter Pan & Wendy’
Another of the titles shown at D23 was ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’, another of the live-action adaptations of the Disney house that will come directly to Disney + throughout the next 2023 under the direction of David Lowery —’The Green Knight’, ‘A Ghost Story’—, who also co-writes the script with Toby Halbrooks.
As for the distribution, Jude Law will be in charge of giving life to Captain Hook, while Alyssa Wapanatâhk will play Tigrilla. Next to them will be Alexander Molony and Ever Andersonwho will embody the leading duo made up of Pan and Wendy respectively in what is expected to be a more realistic version of JM Barrie’s novel.
‘wish’
Regarding its animation division, Disney presented its bet to the gallery for the 2023 film course. It is titled ‘Wish’, and it will be a musical starring Oscar winner Adriana DeBose —’West Side Story’— and co-directed by Chris Buck —responsible for ‘Frozen’— and Fawn Veerasunthornanimator of ‘Raya and the last dragon’.
‘wish’ will tell us the story of Asha, a 17-year-old heroine described as incredibly smart, optimistic, and as a savvy budding leader who sees a darkness that others cannot perceive. Asha navigates through the Realm of Wishes, where wishes can come true, and she asks for guidance and help from the stars, causing a star to fall from the sky that turns out to be a ball of energy that communicates through gestures.
We can see it in november Next year.
‘Elio’
In addition to the announcement of ‘Inside 2’, Pixar has been very present on the first day of D23, where it has been presented ‘Elio’, the studio’s new film directed by ‘Coco’ co-director Adrian Molina and starring America Ferrera and Yonas Kibreab —’Obi-Wan Kenobi’—.
The feature film will revolve around Elio, an 11-year-old boy who will be transported throughout the galaxy, where he will be mistaken for the intergalactic ambassador of planet Earth. We will see it in theaters throughout the spring of the year 2024.
‘Elementary’
And finally, also from the Pixar house we have ‘Elemental’, the next feature film on the studio’s grid that will be released on June 16, 2023. We already knew of its existence, and we knew that its director will be Pete Sohn —’El Arlo’s trip—; but now we can cast a look at its leading duo, made up of Ember and Wadeplayed by Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie.
