As reported in different media, more than one hundred students from the Juana de Asbaje secondary school, in the municipality of Bochil, Chiapas, in Mexico, had to be treated for presenting symptoms of intoxication due to inadvertently ingesting a drug.
These young people presented vomiting, hallucinations, fainting, among others, for which their parents saw the need to take them for a medical check-up. At least 57 students had to be admitted to a clinic of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) to be treated.
In social networks, the recording was viralized where the desperation and anguish of the parents could be appreciated when the students were transferred to the hospital. After a medical check-up and a toxicological profile in the laboratory, it was found that the young people had indeed ingested cocaine, so the case is under investigation by the authorities.
According to some students, on October 7, during the evening shift, some young people began to shout, undress and dance, while others became aggressive and others even fell into convulsions. Among the students, it was said that they had been given water containing diluted drugs to drink.
The IMSS announced that 57 adolescents required medical attention, of which 55 were discharged and two remain hospitalized: one remains stable, under observation, while the other had to be transferred to the General Hospital of Zone No. 2 in the capital of Chiapas, since his health condition is reported serious but stable with a reserved prognosis.
For its part, the State Attorney General’s Office, through the District Attorney’s Offices for Seniors, Adolescents and the Directorate of Expert Services, initiated an investigation to clarify the facts and reported that the staff of Expert Services carried out toxicological tests on the students, achieving so far the application of 15 tests, which were negative for drugs.
It is worth mentioning that in the face of this serious event, the parents went to the school to demand that the school principal clarify the reason for the massive intoxication. Faced with accusations of increased drug sales and consumption, municipal authorities reported that they have taken action by giving talks and carrying out backpack inspection operations. However, an official explained that there are schools that have refused to participate and the Juana de Asbaje secondary school is one of them.
So far it has not been confirmed where the drug was diluted or the authors of this “mischief” that could cost the life of more than one student.
