We at Cinemascomics have reviewed the home edition of the 4K Ultra HD + Blu-Ray Steelbook from Morbius (Sony Pictures, 2022). The new film from the director of The guest and of Life is now available for lovers of home cinema, in formats for all tastes and with more than half an hour of extras, to delve into the filming of the new Marvel legend, although in an alternative universe to that of the UCM, but shared with the one from Venom by Tom Hardy.
To the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions of Morbius that Arvi Licensing has already put up for sale is joined by a Limited 4K UHD+ Blu-ray Steelbook of impressive and careful design made by Orlando Arocena, which can be purchased at the usual points of sale, both physical and online, while stocks last, being an irresistible metal box edition for any fan of collecting in general and in particular of this Marvel’s new antihero.
The 4K Ultra HD + Blu-Ray Steelbook from Morbius includes essential additional content to delve into this film by Daniel Espinosa. The experienced filmmaker abandons his favorite genre, the gritty thriller, to try the superhero genre. Jared Leto (The House of Gucci) who after going off the rails as the Joker in suicide squad (2016) and in The Justice League by Zack Snyder (2021), he goes to the competition to embody one of the most recognized Spider-Man antiheroes and villains, Morbius the Living Vampire.
Along with the diverse amount of extras (more than 37 minutes on the Blu-Ray). We also have a spectacular Dolby Atmos that enhances the sound design of the film. This joins the latest in 4K technology, with HDR 10+. The open ending of the film promises a continuity of the story of the Living Vampire that is awaiting confirmation by Sony Pictures, either in another solo film or teaming up with other heroes and villains from the Spider cinematic universe. -Man created by the studio, which will soon be joined by Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web.
Synopsis:
Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into an enigmatic anti-hero, Doctor Michael Morbius. The doctor suffers from a strange disease that causes a blood disorder that puts his life in check, but he is determined to save other people who suffer the same fate as him, so Dr. Morbius will make a desperate bet. What at first appears to be a radical success of the experimental drug will soon be revealed as a cure potentially worse than the disease itself.
Morbius the living vampire is a character created within the Marvel comics, being also a classic villain and antihero of the Spider-Man universe, and a secondary regular in numerous Marvel Comics stories, which has made its way into this film adaptation that commitment to show us the origin of this character, opening the door to new adventures and crossovers.
The film is directed by Daniel Espinosa and has a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, forming part of the Sony Pictures and Marvel project that expands the Spider-Man cinematographic universe, once again having an antihero now but initially a villain of the Spider-Man as the protagonist. In addition, the film has an outstanding cast made up of the aforementioned Jared Leto, who is joined by Matt Smith (Last Night in Soho), Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Insurrection), Jared Harris (Chernobyl), Al Madrigal (School For Losers) and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious 9), among others.

Lights, camera and action (6 minutes):
We see how Daniel Espinosa directs and what the cast and producers think of his work. Indicating that he is very clear about what he wants and that he is not afraid to make decisions. The filmmaker himself talks about his work and introduces us to his team, confessing that he was inspired by Asian action and martial arts films and that he loves shooting stunt sequences on set in the most natural way possible.
Below, Production Designer Stefania Cella talks about her work on the film, highlighting the aspects used in the comics and where they decided to go the other way. They also talk about the digital effects process to transform Jared Leto’s face and show the character’s echolocation. Without forgetting the comparison between the storyboards and the version released in theaters, along with the post-production process.
Definition of the antihero (5 minutes):
For the director, the most interesting characters in Marvel are the antiheroes, like Morbius and Venom. Along with this, Jared Leto asserts that he has fallen in love with this character, both with his transformation and with the person behind Dr. Michael Morbius. He tells us about his efforts to save himself and his loved ones, as well as his transformation into a vampire. But he also talks about the process of approaching the character.
Do the stunt work (5 minutes):
Jared Leto claims that he has done things in Morbius that he had never done before. We accompany the character as he discovers who he is and how to control his inner beast. Showing us how the process of recording the action scenes with specialists was. In these sequences, rawness and naturalness prevail, sought by the director. For this, he had the help of Gary Powell as director of the second unit and specialists, who shows us some samples of his work in the film.
The good, the bad and the ugly. Supporting Actors (4 minutes):
Once it was decided that only Jared Leto could play Morbius, they offered the role to Matt Smith as the protagonist’s childhood friend, later adding Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson and Al Madrigal to the cast. In this way, we see how the filming went and how well they got along with each other, praising each other.

Human to Vampire: Visual Effects (5 minutes):
We see the way in which the stunt doubles of the leading actors film the stunts, especially in the subway sequences. In addition, for the supervision of the visual effects they had the extensive and proven experience of Matthew Butler, nominated for an Oscar, who worked with Digital Domain for the visual effects and to create the transformations of the main character. But in turn, they did a good job of showing what it looks like through Morbius’s sense of hearing, according to Jared Leto.
